WHAT WE DO
Animal Welfare Education
RAWO integrates animal welfare into primary and secondary school curriculums, reaching over 1,700 students with topics such as responsible pet ownership, public health, and the One Health approach.
Vaccination Campaigns
Promoting Animal Welfare and Public Health
As the World Animal Day Ambassador in Rwanda, the Rwanda Animal Welfare Organization (RAWO) proudly leads annual initiatives dedicated to animal protection and welfare, both locally and nationally.
Each year, during World Rabies Day and other key events, RAWO implements community-centered programs such as dog vaccination, castration, and dog population management — all aimed at preventing rabies, reducing stray dog populations, and promoting harmonious coexistence between people and animals.
Community Outreach & Training
Through its strong community outreach programs, the Rwanda Animal Welfare Organization (RAWO) trains and supports livestock farmers across the country to promote responsible and sustainable animal husbandry practices.
Between 2021 and 2023, RAWO reached over 3,000 farmers, including poultry farmers, dairy cattle keepers, pig farmers, and others engaged in livestock production. The training covers key topics such as:
The Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare
Proper animal husbandry and farm management
Responsible antibiotic use
The One Health approach linking animal, human, and environmental health
RAWO works closely with farmers’ associations, including the Rwanda Poultry Industry Association (RPIA), pig farmers’ associations, and other cooperatives to strengthen animal welfare awareness and improve livestock productivity across Rwanda.
Through these collaborations, RAWO continues to empower rural communities, ensuring that animal welfare becomes a cornerstone of sustainable agriculture and public health in Rwanda.
Save Our Common Ground
students to raise awareness and build knowledge on animal welfare and humane practices
Academic Engagement
RAWO teaches primary school students how to care for animals kindly and responsibly. Through fun and simple lessons, children learn about animal welfare, why animals need proper care, and how to treat them with respect.
By starting early, RAWO helps build a generation that loves and protects animals.
