Conducting surveys aimed to study livestock improvement
Research and Surveys on Livestock Farming
As part of its commitment to advancing animal welfare and sustainable livestock systems, the Rwanda Animal Welfare Organization (RAWO) conducts nationwide research and surveys on livestock farming practices.
These studies focus on understanding the conditions, challenges, and opportunities faced by farmers across Rwanda, including those keeping poultry, dairy cattle, pigs, goats, and other livestock. Through this evidence-based approach, RAWO gathers critical data on:
- Animal health and welfare standards
- Farm management practices
- Use of veterinary services and antibiotics
- Socioeconomic impact of livestock farming on rural communities
The findings from these surveys help inform policy recommendations, guide farmer training programs, and strengthen collaboration between RAWO, local authorities, and farmers’ associations such as the Rwanda Poultry Industry Association (RPIA) and pig farmers’ networks.
Through these efforts, RAWO continues to play a key role in building a knowledge-based livestock sector that promotes animal welfare, food safety, and public health across the country.
