Humane Dog Population Management (HDPM) in Rwanda
In HDPM, RAWO is managing and striving to maintain equilibrium of the dog and cats population humanely in a way that does not cause suffering, cruelty, or harm to dogs, cats, humans and environment. Within this comprehensive program, RAWO in collaboration with local leaders is implementing sustainable and humane strategies to manage dog populations through vaccination campaign, registration and identification, sterilization (spay/neuter) and responsible dog ownership, community education and awareness. These intervention contribute to the national and global vision of eliminating human-transmitted dog rabies by 2030.
RAWO has successfully vaccinated over 4000 dogs across Rwanda . This milestone not only strengthens dogs and community health but also advances Rwanda’s contribution to the international fight against rabies by eliminating Rabies by 2030.In addition, we provide deworming, promote responsible dog ownership. Furthermore, RAWO is making a measurable impact in reducing the number of roaming dogs and cats across Rwanda by castration and spay. This initiative helps the communities by decreasing the risks associated with stray dogs and cats.Together, we can eliminate rabies and create safer, healthier communities for all.
